There are free things to do in Istanbul. Read below:

✔️ Visit Hagia Sophia (until January 15th, after which it will become a paid attraction for tourists).

— Visiting any mosque is generally free. You can enter the Suleymaniye Mosque, where Sultan Suleiman is buried, the Blue Mosque, or the beautiful Ortakoy Mosque by the water.


🛳️ You can take a Bosphorus Tour on a public ferry. It costs around $ 1. You can visit Bosphorus Tours - Sehir Hatlari ® for Istanbul Public Ferry timetable.


✔️ Free cistern in the basement of the Nakkas Rugs store. The carpet store is filled with beautiful goods sits atop a hidden gem. Head below the store, you’ll discover one of the city’s ancient cisterns. Go into the carpet store and they point you in the right direction.


The Nakilbent Cistern is not as large as the famous Basilica Cistern ( Yerebatan Sarnici ) , yerebatansarnici.com, however it is still a wonderfully preserved example of a sixth-century Byzantine water tank. Its' 18 marble columns support giant brick arches and the space itself is expansive and cavernous, lending an air of mystery to the atmosphere.

✔️ Near the Dolmabahce Palace, there is the National Painting Museum, and entrance to its grounds is also free.


✔️ Take a long walk on Istiklal Avenue in Taksim. Istiklal Avenue, located in the heart of Taksim, Istanbul, is a vibrant and bustling thoroughfare that offers a truly unique and dynamic experience.


✔️ Have a picnic in the parks. There are dozens of parks in Istanbul. Macka, Yaldiz, Ihlamur Kasri, Nakkastepe Parks are beautiful.

✔️ Walking the waterfront of the Bosphorus and the sea of Marmara. Explore the Galataport District's trendy ambiance, revel in the maritime allure of Karakoy, and soak in the bustling atmosphere of Eminonu. Each offering a unique blend of historical architecture, vibrant culture, and stunning views of Istanbul.


✔️ Exhibitions: Many exhibitions offer free entry. You can also visit Feshane, Gazhane, and the Energy Museum (santralistanbul.org)


✔️ Libraries: The most popular one is in Ataturk Cultural Center in Taksim, but you can find libraries in the old İBB Kutuphane Troleybus depot or the Minoa network.


✔️ Try in sweets and tea at the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar while vendors try to sell them to you




✔️ City beaches are free after 6:00 PM.  Swim during the summer. You can take the public ferry from Eminonu and go to the Princes Islands.


✔️ Take a walk through the ancient fortress in the village of Anadolu Kavagi.
